With his feet, he opened a new account for India in the Commonwealth games. In Birmingham, he was not able to make it last time, but this time he returned with a medal. He says it’s not his, but the medal of his country through him.
Shankar interacted with the media
In a conversation with news18, he was gracious during the conversation about the courtroom battle with the Athletic Federation of India. He had to fight with the Sports authority who didn’t allow him to participate in CWG despite his qualification. He had skipped the inter-state meet in the USA for the NCAA championship.
He said” it has been a roller coaster journey to get here. I won’t say I don’t have any hard feelings, but at the end of the day, we all are athletes and will be athletes for the athletics Federation or sports authority.
The only thing I am concerned about is maximizing the medal tally for my country. Everybody has their own way of doing this. There might be a difference of opinion and in this case, it definitely was a difference of opinion so ultimately when I was given the opportunity I made the most out of it. At that time the only thing that I could have done was bring metal and add it to the Tally and the fact that I did I’m grateful for this.
PM Modi also interacted with media and athletes and said ” we are not only performing beautifully in the sports but we have also asked historically. We are also witnessing a stall performance in sports where India was not known before.”
” We have also organized chest Olympiad successfully and also performed very well before the Commonwealth Games started I promised you all that we will meet and celebrate this
